Muslim Man Saves Historic Church from Fire, Says Jesus Told Him to Act

Lyon, France — A Muslim delivery driver is being hailed as a hero after rushing into a burning church to save priceless relics — claiming he was moved by a voice that told him, “Protect My House.”

Abdul Rahim, 28, was on his motorbike when he saw smoke rising from the old Saint Martin Cathedral. Without hesitation, he dropped his parcel, kicked open the side door, and began pulling paintings and sacred objects to safety.

“I’m not even Christian,” he told reporters. “But I heard the name Isa — Jesus — in my heart. And it was so loud. Like thunder. He told me to go in.”

Firefighters arrived shortly after and extinguished the blaze. They believe a faulty candle setup near the altar caused the flames, but thanks to Abdul’s quick actions, none of the historic pieces were lost.

The bishop of Lyon praised Abdul in a public statement: “He risked his life for what we hold sacred. God used him, and we are grateful beyond words.”

Photos of Abdul kneeling outside the church after the incident — covered in ash, hands lifted in prayer — have been shared across interfaith communities as a symbol of unity and divine prompting.

Despite media attention, Abdul refuses accolades. “Faith isn’t about the label,” he said. “It’s about listening when God speaks.”

Plans are underway for a plaque honoring Abdul’s bravery to be installed at the church entrance — with the inscription: “A stranger, sent by God.”
