Woman Gives Birth to Healthy Baby Moments After Priest Prays Over Her Stillborn

Lagos, Nigeria — What began as a moment of despair turned into one of divine awe when a mother whose baby was declared stillborn witnessed her child take its first breath moments after a priest’s prayer.

34-year-old Esther Afolabi had suffered complications during labor. After hours of emergency care, doctors informed her that her baby girl had been born with no signs of life. “I felt like my soul left my body,” Esther said. “They wrapped her and placed her on the table.”

But just as the medical team began preparing documentation, Father Emmanuel, a local Catholic priest who’d been waiting in the hallway, entered and asked to pray.

“They allowed me two minutes,” he later said. “I placed my hand on the cloth and asked Jesus, who brought Lazarus back, to breathe again.”

As the prayer ended, a nurse screamed. The baby’s foot twitched. Within seconds, the child let out a cry — loud, clear, and unmistakably alive.

Doctors rushed back in, stunned and scrambling to monitor vitals. What they found was a perfectly healthy infant. “I’ve never seen anything like it in my career,” said the attending physician. “Her heart wasn’t beating for over 20 minutes.”

The hospital has refused to issue a statement, but several staff have spoken anonymously, confirming the sequence of events. Word of the incident has spread across Lagos, drawing visitors to the church where Father Emmanuel serves.

Esther named her daughter Miracle.

“She is a sign that God is not done working wonders,” said Father Emmanuel. “And He hears even whispered prayers.”
