Dragon Age Trilogy Remaster Was Pitched to EA, But “They Basically Seem to Be Against Free Money,” Says Series Veteran

A Long-Awaited Remaster That Never Happened
For years, Dragon Age fans have dreamed of a modernized collection that would bring together the critically acclaimed Dragon Age: Origins, the controversial but beloved Dragon Age II, and the award-winning Dragon Age: Inquisition. This dream came close to becoming a reality โ€” at least on paper.
According to a former BioWare developer who worked extensively on the series, a full remaster trilogy was pitched directly to Electronic Arts. The plan was to deliver a polished, cohesive package that would both preserve the legacy of the franchise and introduce it to an entirely new audience.

A Clear Vision for the Collection
The pitch reportedly included a roadmap for how each game could be upgraded to meet modern standards. The idea wasnโ€™t just to upscale textures and slap on a โ€œremasteredโ€ label, but to fully modernize the trilogy โ€” improved graphics, reworked UI, refined combat systems, and seamless performance on current-gen consoles and PC.
The collection would have also tied the games together more smoothly, giving players a sense of narrative flow leading into Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. For long-time fans, this would have been the ultimate nostalgic experience. For newcomers, it would have been the perfect entry point.

EAโ€™s Surprising Disinterest
Despite the potential, EA reportedly shut down the proposal without much hesitation. The series veteran bluntly summarized the rejection:

โ€œThey basically seem to be against free money.โ€
This statement has sparked frustration among the fanbase, especially considering EAโ€™s previous success with Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which revitalized that series and sold millions of copies. Many players believe a Dragon Age remaster could have achieved similar โ€” if not greater โ€” success.

Perfect Timing That Will Never Come
The timing seemed ideal. With Dragon Age: Dreadwolf nearing release, a trilogy remaster could have reignited passion for the series while catching new players up on the lore. In the world of gaming, such tie-ins often generate significant hype and sales momentum for upcoming titles.
Instead, fans will have to replay the older games in their original form โ€” often with the help of mods โ€” if they want to revisit Ferelden, Kirkwall, and Orlais before diving into the next chapter.

Focus on the Future Instead
EAโ€™s current strategy appears firmly focused on pushing Dreadwolf as the flagship product for the Dragon Age brand moving forward. This suggests the publisher sees more value in allocating resources to new development rather than revisiting older titles.
Whether this gamble will pay off is yet to be seen. For now, the Dragon Age community is left wondering why a proven money-maker โ€” one that could have bridged the gap between past and future โ€” was left on the cutting room floor.
