Steven J. Lawson, the former pastor of Trinity Bible Church in Dallas, has publicly admitted to an inappropriate relationship with a younger woman, bringing to light issues of accountability within church leadership. The relationship, which lasted five years, led to Lawson’s dismissal in September 2024.
After a six-month silence, Lawson sought forgiveness through a social media post, acknowledging his misconduct and the breach of trust it caused. “I have sinned against God, my family, and those who looked up to me,” Lawson wrote. He also mentioned undergoing counseling and a period of repentance.
This revelation adds to a series of recent scandals involving church leaders in the Dallas area, prompting broader discussions about ethical standards and the mechanisms in place to hold leaders accountable. Congregations are increasingly advocating for transparency and preventive measures to address misconduct within religious institutions.
