Despite government restrictions, underground Christian house churches in China continue to grow, providing a place of worship for millions of believers. These small, unofficial gatherings allow Christians to practice their faith in secret, away from the watchful eyes of authorities who regulate religious institutions.
House churches have become increasingly popular due to their intimate community-based worship, with believers gathering in homes, basements, and private spaces to read the Bible, pray, and sing hymns. Many of these churches operate under constant risk of government crackdowns, as Chinese laws require all religious activities to be registered and monitored.
“The church is not a building—it is the people,” said Pastor Liu Cheng, who leads one of these underground congregations. “Even when we face persecution, our faith only grows stronger.” International Christian organizations continue to offer support, providing Bibles, resources, and digital communication tools to help believers stay connected.
