In a surprise announcement that’s lighting up social media and PlayStation communities, Ghost of Yotei, a highly anticipated action-adventure title inspired by Japanese folklore, has been officially confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
Developed by indie studio Shadowspring, Ghost of Yotei blends atmospheric exploration, fast-paced swordplay, and mythological storytelling into what many are calling a spiritual successor to Ghost of Tsushima — with its own darker, supernatural twist.

Set in a mystical reimagining of Hokkaido’s Yōtei region during the late Sengoku era, Ghost of Yotei follows Riku, a disgraced shinobi who returns home to uncover the source of a spreading corruption plaguing the land. Armed with only a cursed blade and fragments of his past, Riku must confront demonic spirits, rogue warlords, and his own haunted legacy.

Despite being developed by a relatively small team, Ghost of Yotei has drawn praise for its stunning visuals and tight gameplay in early previews. The studio cites influences like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Ghost of Tsushima, and Okami — but insists its story is more personal, eerie, and steeped in lesser-known Japanese legends.
