Despite increasing restrictions on religious freedom in parts of Asia, Christianity is experiencing remarkable growth, particularly in South Korea, China, and Vietnam. New studies indicate that the number of Christians in these regions has surged over the past two decades, with underground house churches playing a significant role in this expansion.
In South Korea, megachurches like Yoido Full Gospel Church, the world’s largest Pentecostal congregation, continue to thrive, drawing tens of thousands of worshippers weekly. Meanwhile, in China, where churches operate under strict regulations, the number of underground Christian communities has increased dramatically, with estimates suggesting over 100 million believers in the country today.
“In many places, faith is growing not because of freedom, but despite the lack of it,” said Reverend Samuel Chen, a missionary working in East Asia. “People are hungry for hope, for truth, and they find it in Jesus Christ.”
As more believers face persecution, Christian organizations worldwide are working to support underground churches with Bibles, theological education, and spiritual encouragement.
