In an unprecedented event, Christian leaders from around the world gathered in New York to address the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities. The “Faith and Stewardship Summit,” hosted by the World Council of Churches, brought together Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox leaders to discuss environmental policies guided by biblical principles.
Pope Francis delivered a special address, urging believers to view environmental care as a moral duty. “We are stewards of creation,” he said. “God has entrusted us with this Earth, and it is our responsibility to protect it.”
The summit resulted in the signing of a new declaration committing churches to advocate for sustainable development, reduce carbon footprints, and support conservation efforts.
Reverend Sarah Thompson, a delegate from the United Methodist Church, stated, “This is the first time we’ve seen such a unified effort from Christian leaders to take action on climate justice. It’s inspiring and necessary.”
