Naples, Italy — Archaeologists in southern Italy have uncovered a hidden crypt beneath a medieval church, revealing early Christian relics dating back to the 4th century. The crypt, which was sealed for centuries, contains a treasure trove of artifacts, including reliquaries, early inscriptions, and a beautifully preserved mosaic depicting biblical scenes.
The relics, believed to include fragments of bones from saints and early church leaders, are accompanied by Latin inscriptions referencing prayers for protection and thanksgiving. The mosaic, which spans the crypt’s floor, illustrates the Last Supper, the Nativity, and the Baptism of Christ.
“This discovery is a profound window into the faith and devotion of early Christ
ians,” said Dr. Giovanni Moretti, an expert in early Christian archaeology. “It’s remarkable how much care and artistry went into preserving their legacy.”
The find has sparked global interest, with plans underway to restore and display the artifacts in a local museum.
